How to install a 24-hour Dashcam/CarPlay surveillance kit that works even when stationary 🚗🔌
This guide will help you install your 24h kit that comes with your Dashcam or CarPlay, or can be purchased separately. It allows your device to remain powered and operational even when your vehicle is turned off. This type of kit uses the vehicle's battery directly to provide continuous power.

Step 1: Locate the fuse box
The fuse box is usually located:
-
Under the steering wheel , driver's side
-
In some cases, behind the pedal or in another location specific to your vehicle model
If you can't find your fuse box, check your vehicle's manual or search online for specific information for your model.
Step 2: Identify the correct locations
You will need to test and identify two types of fuses:
-
A fuse with direct current (even when the vehicle is off):
- Connect the yellow wire from your kit to it.
-
A fuse with active current only when the vehicle is running :
- Connect the red wire to it.
How to test fuses?
- Use a multimeter or fuse tester to check the voltage:
- Test a fuse with the vehicle off: If the multimeter shows current, it is a DC fuse.
- Test another fuse by starting the vehicle: If current only appears at this point, it is a live fuse.
Precautions:
- Use free or non-essential locations (for example, those reserved for trunk lights).
- If the fuse box is labeled, use the directions to select the correct outlets. Otherwise, experiment.
Step 3: Connect to Earth (Ground)
The black wire from the kit must be connected to a metal ground point to ensure grounding and safety. This can be:
- An exposed metal screw in the fuse box area.
- A fixed bolt located nearby.
Why is grounding important?
- It protects your installation against power surges.
- It improves current stability.
Step 4: Finalization and testing
- Connect the yellow, red and black wires correctly as explained.
- Turn on your vehicle and check if your CarPlay or dashcam is working in 24/7 mode:
- Check that it remains powered after the vehicle is turned off.
- Check that it also works when the engine is running.
Additional Tips:
- If you are unsure about handling the fuse box, seek professional help.
- Make sure the wires are securely fastened to avoid any connection problems.
Happy installing! 🚗✨
